About the Piedmont NICU

710 Center Street, Columbus, Georgia 31901

Piedmont is a Georgia healthcare system with locations across the state. Founded in 1905, the network has spent over a century figuring out how to provide unparalleled care for Georgians. Every year, the network sees over 3.7 million patients across the 1,600 locations. They provide both routine appointments as well as specialized care. There are 9 hospitals throughout Georgia that offer a Level III NICU. In addition, Piedmont Newton offers a Level II Special Care Nursery

Services

The Piedmont NICU offers a space where babies can recover from both premature delivery and potential illnesses. The wing is on the same floor as the labor and delivery department, so you’re never too far from your little one. If your baby needs medical interventions in the days after their birth, they will be placed in isolettes so they can stay warm while receiving advanced care. The NICU keeps space around the incubators so providers can access your baby as needed. The wing is staffed by neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, specialized nurses, and respiratory therapists.

If needed, the wing offers a trained transport team with a fully equipped vehicle. Because many moms are concerned with how this will affect early bonding, Piedmont gives you the chance to remain physically close. They will offer you special sessions where your baby will wear just a diaper before being placed against your chest for skin-to-skin. You will be able to work with your baby during this time to breastfeed.

You can meet with this team prior to your due date for diagnostic services, antepartum testing, perinatal consultations, genetic counseling, diabetes management, and fetal ultrasounds.
