About A Montessori School In Columbus, GA: First Presbyterian Day School

1100 1st Avenue, Columbus, Georgia 31901

First Presbyterian Day School is a learning center that was opened up as a ministry through the First Presbyterian Church. The faith-based school is dedicated to making sure each child feels loved as they receive an education. They encourage children to build friendships that encourage their social development. The center starts young children in a traditional, age-appropriate setting. Once they hit the age of 3, children are able to start in the Montessori program. First Presbyterian Day School has options for kids from infancy through the age of 6

Services

The First Presbyterian Day School adheres to the child-led philosophy originally created by Dr. Maria Montessori. With this philosophy, the center puts the power in the children’s hands so they can learn at their own speed. The classrooms within the First Presbyterian Day School have been stocked with enriching materials that will grab your child’s attention and get them thinking. The classrooms are multi-age, creating a unique, family-like structure where older kids guide the younger kids, and the younger kids follow the example of the older. The school has weekly programs, including STEM, Spanish, and music classes that will give your child a comprehensive approach to early education. The school offers 5-day classes as well as extended programs for kindergarten-aged children. All children entering the Montessori program must be potty-trained.

Specialty

Because kids best benefit from Montessori after the age of 3, the school provides traditional classes for infants and toddlers. For infants, they offer 2 day and 5 day classes. For 2- and 3-year-olds, they have 3 and 5 day classes. In these classes, your child will work on socializing while gaining the independence necessary for later classes. The school uses the Zoo-phonics curriculum to teach children phonetics and lay the bricks for literacy programs.
